This page contains some general information about our teams!
We have destinct playing frameworks that aim to support and compliment rugby development, these are:
Seniors (including 1st XV, 2nd XV, etc)
The following information is aimed at outlining how these teams operate.
The Seniors
The 1st XV won promotion from Gloucester 3rd last season with an unbeaten record!
The seniors are coached by former Bristol and England No. 8 - Bob Hesford.
The seniors train on a Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7.00 pm.
The majority of seniors have been with the club for most of their rugby careers.
The Juniors
The aim of the junior section is to develop players to progress through the club so as to provide the senior teams with a constant supply of new talent.
To assist in the process we have the following junior teams:
Under 16's: school year groups ten and eleven
Under 14's: school year groups eight and nine
Under 11's: school year group five and six
Under 9's: school year group four
Under 8's: school year group three
Under 7's: school year group two
Under 6's: school year group one and reception*
* children aged 4 and upwards are able to join the under 6's team, however, no child below the age of 6 is permitted to
play in a match or tournament. These age groups introduce rugby at an appropriate pace, matches increase in duration and more of the laws are applied.
Our coaches provide a safe and controlled environment for our players to learn and develop new skills while playing more competitive (friendly) matches and tournaments.
New players of any ability are always welcome to join one of our training sessions, for more information click the above link or email use via our contact pages.
What is Tag rugby? - it is a fast non-contact version of the game.
It introduces children to rugby in a fun format that starts to build the general concepts, laws and aspirations of rugby union:
- Enjoyment - Respect - Co-operation and team work
The aim of tag rugby is to build skills, particularly in,
- Running with the ball - Passing (throwing and catching) - Tagging players with the ball (chasing) - Avoiding being tagged (evasion)
At Broad Plain RFC we focus on fun and enjoyment in the formative years, the desire to win will come naturally to most players. We are always happy to welcome new members or for you to join one of our training sessions to see how you get on.
For more information click into the above link or email us via our contacts page.
NB: The RFU have placed controls on the ages at which players can play in matches and progress through to mini-rugby (the introduction to 'contact' rugby - this is why we play tag rugby in the above age groups).
